Fall Splendour - The Big Leaf Maple

Every once in a while, on the west coast of Canada, we get a cold enough frost during the fall season to turn the big Leaf maple trees into a crown of glory. The leaves are the size of a charger plate and I have used them for that at a dinner. This was a very large painting and challenging to keep the flow of the tree and the background. It took a lot of study and checking. Fortunately using oil paints it did not dry right away. It took many days to paint.It is our tree just coming out of the driveway to the roadway, so I was showered with maple leaf confetti each trip to our village for at least a month.
