24x24 This was an Oil painting on a purple gessoed canvas.
Donated to our new Firehall on the island.
What a disaster in January 2020 started out with the bush fires in Australia. It was awful to see the wildlife fleeing the fire and getting caught. The Rescue photos showed us some hope and moments of grace. This image was one of the photos and I'm sure it was taken by another firefighter themself. I wanted to paint it in oils and used a palette knife on the koala bear to texture the fur. The smokey background with fire still burning was another chalenge of creating a haze and blending the background. It was a great painting to attempt and I like it. I'm happy with it. I'm donating it to our Fire Hall here on Gabriola Island.
This was part of the Group of Several Firetruck and Firefighters series assignment.
